The Big Canoe Writers Club serves the writers or would-be writers of the community. We sign up on a quarterly schedule which lists the presenter and host for each meeting date. Presenters may present work for critique, provide the members with a writing exercise, or bring in a guest speaker.
The Big Canoe Writer’s Club was started by Big Canoe Resident Harris Green, a former college English professor. The club meets every second Thursday critique member work. A host provides wine and snacks and presides over the meeting. Every fourth Thursday the club meets to share favorite literature, do a writing exercise, etc. Members have individually published dozens of short writings, a dozen or so fiction and non-fiction books (one of which was translated into Chinese), and an anthology of short pieces by fourteen members. Called In the Stream, the book was self-published by the club just for family and friends. Members have also held community readings for the residents of Big Canoe to enjoy.
Anyone interested in visiting/joining the club can contact Harris at 706-579-1774 or hrgreen@windstream.net.
