Although the spring, summer and fall always seem to be a great time to visit Big Canoe, my husband and I first fell in love with the community when we rented a home in December of last year. We did not realize what a treat was in store for us when our family arrived at the rental home that weekend. As we started to make dinner, our youngest son was standing on the deck and I noticed that there were some snowflakes landing on his head. As he began his happy dance to see snow for the first time, we realized that Big Canoe is truly a magical place. Maybe it was the crackle of the fire as we all sat around and enjoyed our family away from the hustle & bustle of the big city. Or maybe it was just the beauty of the pure white snow starting to cover the mountain.
In either case, it did not take long for us to make up our mind that we needed to call this place home. Fortunately the snow did not stick to the roads, but the trees told another story. We woke up to a winter wonderland and stopped by the Big Canoe Realty office in Wolfscratch Village where we were able to set up time over the weekend to find our home away from home. By the start of the New Year, we closed on our home and absolutely love coming to Big Canoe for the holidays. Unlike some other mountain communities, there are so many things to do both inside the gates, as well as throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains during this time of year. You truly must experience Big Canoe during the winter months to see the real beauty of the community. We hope you and your family have a happy holiday season.
